7 Ways to Celebrate Mother’s Day After She is Gone

Mother’s Day, May 8th, celebrates and honors mothers. When your mom passes away, the annual holiday becomes a reminder of your loss. But you still can recognize the wonderful woman who cared and prayed for you.

If you are searching for ways to celebrate Mother’s Day after she is gone, check out the following list for ideas.

  1. Plant Trees: If you have the yard space, plant a tree in your mom’s memory. Trees are beneficial to the environment.
  2. Plant Your Mom’s Favorite Flower: What was your mom’s favorite flower? Plant flowers near your house as a remembrance. Or put her favorite flower on her gravesite. If you do not remember her favorite flower, plant a rose, peony, or other types of flowers that come back yearly. When you continue to plant flowers in her memory, you will eventually have a colorful garden to remind you of her.
  3. Send Bouquets: Send your mom’s favorite flowers to another mom in your life. Consider sending flowers to an aunt, sister, or another motherly figure.  If you cannot think of another person, send flowers to a local nursing home. Ask the delivery to go to someone who may not otherwise get any mail or gifts.
  4. Get Cooking or Baking: Did your mom have a favorite family meal or dessert that she just loved to make on a special occasion? Dig out the old family recipe for a special Mother’s Day treat to honor your mom. If you do not have a recipe, look up her favorite on Pinterest.
  5. Light a Candle: Lighting a candle is an easy way to remember your mom on Mother’s Day. What was your mom’s favorite scent? Burn a candle to honor and remember her.
  6. Donate: Did your mom have a favorite charity? If you do not know, donate money in her name to a local food bank, pet rescue, church, or other reputable organization.
  7. Make a Scrapbook: Do you have photos of your mom stored in boxes? Get crafty. Create a scrapbook to honor her. Or print out photos to hang on your wall.

Not having your mom around on Mother’s Day is difficult. But, you still can honor her memory each year.

Happy Mother’s Day!
