May is here! Are you ready for the new month? The beginning of the month is a perfect time to start writing in a journal. Keeping a journal is beneficial to your overall mental health. Don’t know where to start? If you are searching for inspiration, check out the following journal writing prompts for May.

  1. How did April go for you? Your family and friends? List the highs and lows of the month.
  2. Write down 3 goals for May. Then, write down 10 goals for the rest of the year.
  3. Write down goals for the rest of 2026.
  4. It’s Monday! What are plans for the week?
  5. Happy Cinco de Mayo! Are you going to celebrate? Go out to eat or cook something at home?
  6. What made you laugh today? Why was this instant so funny to you?
  7. Write about what you were doing at 2pm.
  8. Write down 3-5 things that you love about yourself. Go into details.
  9. Free write for 15 minutes.
  10. Happy Mother’s Day! Write about your mom or your day.
  11. What do you do for self-care? Do you need to spend more time taking care of yourself?
  12. If you were giving a plane ticket to anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why?
  13. What is your favorite hobby? Why do you enjoy this hobby so much?
  14. What is your biggest fear right now? What can you do to alleviate your fear?
  15. When you meet someone, what is the first thing you notice? Why?
  16. Write a letter to your future self.
  17. Write about your best friend from high school? College? Now?
  18. Write down 3 things that you are grateful for right now?
  19. What is your favorite movie? Why?
  20. If you could place yourself into any television drama, what would you pick? Why?
  21. What song is your current theme song? Why?
  22. Are you hosting a barbeque or other event for Memorial Day weekend? Write about your plans.
  23. What traditions does your family or friends do on Memorial Day or the weekend? Do you place flowers on graves? Watch a parade? Volunteer?
  24. What does the Memorial Day weekend mean to you.
  25. Memorial Day! Write about your day.
  26. Watch the sunrise or the sunset. Then, record your thoughts about the activity.
  27. Who provides you with inspiration? Why?
  28. What is one thing you heard on the news (or read online) that bothered you? Why?
  29. Write a restaurant review.
  30. What are looking forward to in the upcoming summer months? Why?
