Journal Writing Prompts for August 2025

A new month is almost here. August is the perfect time to start a journal or continue your writing adventure. Do you need inspiration? Consider the following journal writing prompts for August.

  1. How did July go for you, your family, your friends, work, etc? List the highs and lows for last month.
  2. Write 3 goals for the month.
  3. Write goals for the remaining months of 2025.
  4. Do you have any pets? Write about the day from their point of view.
  5. What is your biggest fear right now? What steps can you take to alleviate this fear?
  6. Do you take time for yourself? What your self-care routine?
  7. Write about a challenging time in your life. What was your situation? What did you do to overcome this obstacle? Are you still going through this challenge? Write about what you have learned.
  8. Write about someone who inspires you? Why did you pick this person?
  9. If you could just pick up and leave, where would you go? Would you go on a vacation? Or move? Why?
  10. Write about your favorite movie? Why does this movie mean so much to you?
  11. Write about your first love.
  12. Free write for 10 minutes.
  13. What would you do if you could not fail?
  14. Write about your strengths and weaknesses at this moment in time.
  15. Do you believe that you are a better person than you were yesterday? Last month? Last year? Five years?
  16. Do you believe you are a happy person? Write about what brings you happiness.
  17. What is the most exciting and adventurous thins you have done in your life so far? Why does this memory stick out over others?
  18. What are you currently tolerating in your life that you want to change? What can you do to improve this situation?
  19. Research a quote or Bible verse that speaks to you today? Why did you pick this particular one?
  20. What was your favorite part of today? Why?
  21. Write a letter to your future self. Describe your achievement over the next month, year, or 5 years.
  22. Write about a time you were wrong. How did you resolve this situation? What did you learn from your experience.
  23. You are taking yourself out on a solo date. Where are you going? What do you plan to do?
  24. What is your guilty pleasure? Why does this bring you joy?
  25. Describe your perfect dream home.
  26. Take a moment to glance around the room. Write about what you see. Is there a specific object or person who brings you happiness. Go into detail.
  27. When was the last time you were out in nature? Write about your experience.
  28. August generally signals the end of summer. What do you still want to do before the colder months set in? And, what is your best summer memory?
  29. Today is the start of Labor Day weekend? Do you have any plans for the long weekend?
  30. When you was a child, did you and your family travel on holiday weekends? Where did you go? What was your favorite part?
  31. You made it to the end of the month! The ‘ber” months start tomorrow! What are you looking forward to doing?
