The holiday originated from the television show “Parks and Recreation,” created by Amy Poehler. In the show, the character Leslie Knope, played by Poehler, celebrates Galentine’s Day as a day for women to celebrate their female friendships.

Galentine’s Day is typically observed by women getting together to enjoy each other’s company, often through various activities like brunch, dinner, or a girls’ night out. The day focuses on honoring and appreciating the bonds between female friends, to show love and support for each other. But most importantly, the day celebrates the importance of friendship.

While Valentine’s Day traditionally focuses on romantic love, Galentine’s Day shifts the focus to platonic relationships and the camaraderie among women. Over the years, Galantine’s Day has gained in popularity beyond the show’s fan base.  Many people embrace the day as an opportunity to celebrate friendship and female empowerment.
