26 Journal Writing Prompts for Summer

The summer season is officially here. Enjoy the warm weather! Spend time outdoors! But also make time to write down your thoughts about the wonderful summer season. If you are searching for inspiration, check out the following journal writing prompts for summer.

  1. Write your summer goals.
  2. Describe your perfect summer evening.
  3. What is your favorite summer activity as an adult?
  4. What was your favorite summer activity as a child?
  5. Create a summer bucket list for yourself. Create another one for your family.
  6. Describe your favorite summer memory as a child, a teen, and an adult.
  7. What was your favorite summer vacation? Why?
  8. Did you ever attend summer camp? Write about your experience.
  9. What was your first summer job? What was the job? Go into detail. Describe what your first summer job taught you.
  10. How is life different from last summer?
  11. What do you hope next summer brings for you? Your family? Your friends? Your community?
  12. Did you ever have a summer love or crush? Write about the experience.
  13. What is your favorite summer pool or lake memory?  
  14. What are your favorite summer foods or treats? Why?
  15. If money was not a factor, what would you do this summer? Would you travel? Or renovate your home?
  16. Is summer your favorite season? Why or why not?
  17. As a child, did you miss school when you were on summer vacation? Why or why not?
  18. Do you spend most of your time indoors or outdoors during the summer months? Why
  19. What is your favorite summer outdoor activity?
  20. Pretend you are a local tour guide. Where would take your tourists? Why?
  21. Get outdoors. Go for a walk. Now, write about your experience. What did you see? Smell? Hear? Touch?
  22. Go to a local café or coffee shop on a warm summer day. If available, sit outdoors. Observe the different customers. Write about who comes in.
  23. List 5 things you cannot live without during the summer months. What are they important?
  24. Go outside. Free write for 15 minutes.
  25. As summer comes to an end, write about your highs and lows.
  26. What are you looking forward to in the upcoming fall season? Why?
