  1. Backdrop

Start with setting up a backdrop. Expensive materials are not necessary. In fact many items are usually available at your local dollar store.

  • Tablecloths: Tape plastic tablecloths to a wall or hang on a rope. If available, hang three tablecloths- red, white, and blue.
  • Streamers: Use red, white, and blue streamers as a backdrop. Many streamers are metallic which adds a sparkle to the backdrop.
  • Balloons: Tie red, white, and blue balloons together. Create an arch or an entire backdrop from the balloons.
  • Shower Curtain: Use a shower curtain for a backdrop. (There are a white ones available that are inexpensive but great for backdrops).
  • Fabric: Material is more expensive. However, there are many more options for a backdrop.
  • String Lights: If your party is later at night, add string lights to your backdrop.

2. Props

Provide a box of 4th of July themed props which do not need to cost a lot.

  • Hats & Caps: Uncle Sam hats, cowboy hats, baseball style caps, etc.
  • Signs: Purchase red, white, or blue themed signs. Or make your own using poster boards. Personalize your signs for your party. For example, write out “Smith 4th of July BBQ 2026”. Or common patriotic themes like “Let Freedom Ring” or “Proud to be an American”.
  • Sunglasses: Add oversized sunglasses. Or provide red, white, and blue sunglasses and star sunglasses.
  • Glow Sticks: Provide red, white, or blue glow sticks. These are great for night time photos.
  • Beads: Red, white, and blue beads are a fun, inexpensive prop.

  • Cell Phone Use: Ask everyone to use their own mobile devices.
  • Social Media Group or Page: Set up a group or private page to share your photos for everyone to view.
